Scrap Craft Project

Do you like to sew but keep ending up with lots of scrap cloth?  Do you feel bad every time you throw pretty pieces of cloth away?

With these 2 crafts, you will need every scrap!

Want to feel festive all the time!  Here’s how!

You don’t need a special occasion to feel like a celebration is happening every day!  You just need all-year-round buntings!  We aren’t sure what it is but there is something about buntings that just make you feel happy!

MATERIALS:

scrap cloth
scissors for fabric
ribbon
needle
thread
safety pin (optional)

HOW TO:
1. Using the pattern below, cut the different pieces of cloth.  You may use different pattern designs and just mix them all up together).

2. Attach to the ribbon by folding and sewing.

3. Add pieces and make it as long as you like!  Hang to display!

4. You may even cut out small letters and put it on the buntings for more variety!  If you want, you can just safety pin them on so you can change the words depending on the occasion!

The next project is definitely for the sweetest types of gals!  It’s really girly!

MATERIALS:

scrap cloth
scissors for fabric
newspaper
packing tape
glue gun
PVC tube
glass bottle
white glue

HOW TO:
1. Make the base ball using crumpled up newspaper.  Make sure it’s packed tight and then wrap with packing tape all around so it retains its shape.  (This is an alternative to styrofoam balls that are harmful for the environment).

2. Make the flowers using the technique in the video below.

3.  Slather the whole PVC tube with white glue.

4.  Punch the PVC tube into the ball so it’s sturdy enough to hold the ball up.

5.  Arrange the flowers on the newspaper ball and glue gun all the flowers around the ball.

You may arrange this on a vase or a small bottle.

You may also use the stem of artificial flower bouquets and then insert the artificial flowers into the spaces between the fabric flowers.

Enjoy!

Go Negosyo Book Feature

“When one feeds a woman, one feeds a whole village….” Vice President Leni Robredo shared at Go Negosyo’s book launch last Tuesday.  She thanked the organization for shining a light on women and for proving that there is “no limit to excellence”.

She urged women to mentor women as part of the process of moving the country forward.  Robredo mentioned that when you empower a woman, you not only free her from poverty but also you give her children and generations after her, “the audacity to dream”.

Tips in Creating a Mural

Robert Alejandro shares with us how he makes wall come alive with a stroke of a brush.  Here he is as he was completing the mural at Papemelroti SM Taytay.

Starting to draw a flying contraption ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€

Some buntings:-)

Finished – with a little paint smudge ๐Ÿ˜„!

I know this doesn’t look like much but I do know that I wanted something tall and visible from a distance. Hence the trees. I actually used a kitchen sponge doing this.

  • Now it gets more interesting. Using a medium sized brush, I paint in leaves on the tree. I am using house paint acrylic.

  •

  • A very simple tree but it’s far from finished.

And on the other side of the wall – another kind of tree. I like drawing different “species” of plants. Take inspiration from nature and it’s variety of shapes sizes and color! #papemelroti #smcitytaytay

A graduate of Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines, Robert is an award winning graphic designer.  He is a founding member of Illustrador ng Kabataan (INK), an organization of childrenโ€™s book illustrators.

His varied projects include design and illustration for books, magazines, and advertisements as well as designs for shopping malls, retail shops and entertainment centers like Eureka at SM Mega Mall.
For papemelroti, Robert makes designs for stationery, bags, figurines and a variety of decorative accessories, often using his popular “Official” characters and Filipiniana themes.  He was once the host of the popular television show “Art Is-Kool” on Channel 7, a children’s art workshop on TV and formerly one of the correspondents for “The Probe Team” with Che Che Lazaro on Channel 2.
